Me looking for advice again!

My lovely Mum has offered to buy me a proper crafter's lamp, to save me going cross-eyed and stabbing myself in the nose trying to do seed-beading at night! I have tried a small table top one with a blue "natural" light bulb that came free from a book club so I know that it helps, but have realised I'll need a floor standing one for behind my chair. These don't come cheap tho', and there doesn't seem to be much choice on-line, so I thought maybe some of you could recommend one to save us making an expensive mistake???

I looked into buying these for my loft for paper crafting, but the costs of the lamps were so expencive.
However on another group I asked for advice, and was told you can buy the crafting day light bulbs to go into normal light fittings... So thats what I did, and I use them all over my house now.
The bulbs are only around £1 each and work just the same as the propper daylight lamps, for a fraction of the cost. I have a desk lamp infront of me with one of these bulbs in and have a lamp behind me. Best thing is they take away a good 90% of shadows also.
Have a look for the craft daylight bulbs, do make sure there the craft ones as the others ones arnt nowhere near as good.

I like this brand very much.

I noticed this one was on special offer at the moment - looks a good reduction:

It might be worth looking at the royal national institute for the blind -

I bought mine from them a while back at a good price. I thought at first that I wouldn't be able to pay from them unless I was registered blind, but they said that anyone could, afterall, it meant that they then had more income!

The daylight lamps come in various sizes and shapes. the best ones are the flouresent ones that go in a hoop round a magnifier. they come floor standing or desk standing and angle poise so you can shift them over your work and out the way easily.

The Normal type bulbs in daylight format get hot like normal bulbs whereas the flouresent tube ones don't get as hot so you can work under them more easily and comfortably. You can also buy ortable flourenst lamps which are good for workshops or classes ( I have a ottlight)

Try cross stich and quilt stockists as thy often have them. Theres a chat who does all the quilt shows who always has them. My mum swears by hers. they are an investment, and the bulbs need changing occasionally but not frequently.

Your eyes and the pleasure you get from your beading are worth the investment. Once you have one you'll find it useful for all sorts of other crafts too.
