|
|
Hi everyone, after many weeks of not making anything, I have spent this morning making my own findings (incuding the hook!) in pink wire.....I have never done this before as I have always bought them in. Lovely Vim taught me the basics of making jumprings and wrapping, but this is the first time I have actually made a piece of jewellery using these techniques. It's far from perfect, but the main thing I love about using coloured wire is the intensity of colour it brings to the piece - the colours aren't 'diluted' by silver (or gold). I have just ordered a 'Bead on a wire' book and can't wait to get it right......
Any advice/tips would be greatly appreciated.
Flower bracelet using fuchsia-pink wire and beads in toning colours.
Thank you for looking. Carmie _________________

Oh Wow Carmie, that is gorgeous! I can almost imagine it is summer looking at that. And well done on the wirework. _________________ Anna

Thank you. I am using black wire now but find I'm marking it with my pliers (even though I have filed them down) can anyone give me any advice on how to prevent this? Carmie _________________

That is really lovely.
I'm been nervous about using coloured wire so far as I'm not sure about it's hardiness, how are you finding it? And where did you get your stash?
To stop marking the wire you could try Tool Magic, it's a liquid rubber coating that you dip your pliers into, let dry and hey presto rubber jaws! It peels off too once you're done.
I've read that you can also tape the jaws of your pliers with masking tape I think(?). _________________ Carolyne

Carmie,
Lovely bracelet, the coloured wire really works well.
You can buy nylon coated pliers, wrap masking tape round your pliers or dip them in a lovely goo called (I think) tool magic but it carries all sorts of health warnings.

Yet again you inspire me. I bought a load of coloured wire some time ago but didn't have a clue what to do with it. I certainly do now. Thanks for sharing such lovely inspirational stuff. |

Thank you all. I'll try masking tape first as I have that already.... I do find it makes my fingers sore but I really love it. I am soooo excited about getting my book, and have been looking at loads of tutorials.
My stash........ wire from wire.co.uk ........ I have used 0.8mm strong for the jumprings and hook and pins, and I have used 0.6mm strong for the wrapping. The beads, leaves, butterfly and flowers I sell on my website (am I allowed to say that? )...... just off to find that masking tape...... Carmie _________________

Carmie,
I've got the Bead on a Wire book and it's great, you'll love it!
In fact I've got a few wire working books should really do more than just drool over them... _________________ Carolyne
