So me- yeah I know a hardened "seed beading is too fiddly" person!- well I found an old beadmag with good pics to I thought I would have a go!

SO
1. all stitches look a bit odd in the first few stitches ,and you cant really see the pattern properly for a bit
2. it is a bit tricky getting the tension right- and if you dont it looks uneven and wobbly
3. square stitch(is it?) only really looks right with good even beads but
4. peyote works well for organic/uneven/random type styles
5. it is generally slow going( esp at first) but coralling is quicker

is that about right of just me?? Embarassed
I think I have the hang of a couple of basic stitches, but I think they will be for friends, family ,me or commissions only! Confused Daisy

dear cathy

no-i find keeping the tension right on coralling(2tight and it curls 2 loose and it sags and the thread shows) makes it slower
good for you- try an easy spiral soon and you`ll be hooked Heart

I can vouch for spiral, you might actually never want to do another stitch ever again. I love spiral Heart

The lady who taught me to do beadweaving initially always said keep going until you've got "something to hold on to" Whistling
and only then can you judge whether you like the look of it.

It has proved to be very good advice Very Happy

The first inch or so is always awkward until there is something to get hold of. Embarassed
(Read into that what you will?)

Hehehe, glad to hear you've finally cracked... welcome to the seedy side! Daisy
You are quite right about all of the above, except that Pollie is right, it can be tricky to get the tension right on coralling... but it sounds as though you have learned lots of useful stuff already.
Handy hint: stitches with lots of gaps in (e.g. netting or right angle weave with more than one bead on each side of the squares) grow much faster than the 'solid' stitches like peyote or brickstitch Wink
Hope you have lots of fun, and look forward to seeing the results! Cool
