Afternoon all.

I have made a necklace using silver plated wire guardians, crimps and crimp covers to finish it off and when closing one of the crimp covers I have managed to chip off some of the silver plate off the crimp cover so part of it looks black.

Is there any way to remove a crimp cover once its closed so that I can replace it? Has anyone done this? I really don't want to have to re-thread the entire necklace if I don't have to as its really long!!

Thanks.

Been meaning to update all week! It worked! Yay!

I did as beadaddictedinburh suggest and squeeze across the opening ie the plier jaws at the top and bottom of the opening so that it opened enough to slip the wire with crimp out. Took about 10 minutes.

Thanks for your help all. x

Hi there

Yes, I have done this on a number of times!! Rolling Eyes I could only break the crimp off. It can take the best part of an hour if you're wanting to preserve the wire. I'd be very interested if anyone has a technique to getting them off. Rainbow

I have managed sucessfully a couple of times by cutting the crimp very carefully right next to the wire both sides & then gently wiggling. Takes a steady hand & good eye but it can be done.

Good luck

Deep breath, sharp snips and away you go.

Although I have been able to get them open enough to slip off by sqeezing across the opening ie the plier jaws at the top and bottom of the opening - it depends on how well you sqeezed when closing the flaming thing!

is it just the cover you want to remove cos if so-hold the necklace with gripping plers and take a thin bladed knife to the opening-try one side at a time from the opp.direction so that the knife is going away from you and twiddle-it can work sometimes if you only just touch the edges of crimpcovers together when you use them Heart

Thanks everyone. Glad I'm not the only one :-)

I think I will try a thin knife first as Pollie suggested then try snipping! If it doesn't work hey ho I'll just restring it. Thanks all.

Glad it worked!

The good news is that the more you do it the quicker you'll get Very Happy

Of course the better way would be to not get in that situation in the first place Laughing
