I don't know if this is in the right place for this suggestion???
There are various queries on here along the lines of "I'm going on holiday to ....... and wondered if there are any bead shops in the area". I thought how useful it would be to have a map on this site showing beadshops or even a list, say by county, of beadshops. Uk Beader shops could be in one colour, none Uk Beader shops in another and perhaps general craft shops that stock beads/findings in yet another colour.
I'm not hot on internet skills but would be happy to help to set something up (I think).
What do you think or have I already missed something similar on this site already???? _________________ Andrea |

There used to be such a map. It might be on the uk beaders website. _________________ ...the spirit of an elf and the lifestyle of a hobbit

It is, and because I'm feeling helpful I'll post the link since I just fished the map up: Only registered users can see links on this forum! Register or Login on forum! |
However, it's not exactly up to date or comprehensive... when I first looked at I thought "I should PM someone about it" and then didn't.
For example, the nearest place to me with a marker on the map is Leeds, but the shop listed has changed its name, moved premises and it isn't a bead shop anyway- it's just a general craft shop with a few jewellery making bits and bobs. Oh, and the site it's linked to doesn't exist, either.
I think that's probably a very extreme example, but it's not the most useful reference as it is. I guess it's up to us to do something about it. |

Thank you - that's just the sort of thing I was thinking about. Does anyone know how to go about updating it? _________________ Andrea |

Hi everyone,
Lucy adds all the details when people let her her know.
All the details on the map so far are from members recommendations and details she has seen when adding new listings to the main UK Beaders pages.
If things change or new places open she won't know about them unless some one tells her! Especially seeing as she's only ever been to a couple of bead shops herself as there aren't many round here - at least that's what she says when I ask why she buys so much on ebay!!!
She does try to go through the site (including the map) to update it periodically, but as you can imagine with so many hundreds of listings that is a lot of work.
I know she has been away from the forum for a while now (and I know she wishes she were back home, but the things shes dealing with have been a lot more complicated then she expected) so no updates have been done to the site in that time.
You can always use the UK Beaders email address to let us know of any updates etc or post here in the forum as I know sometimes emails or PMs can get missed.
While I can't do the updates myself (at the moment) when Lucy is back I will ask her if it's possible for me to help her out or if there's any way for the members here to help.
Thank you _________________

Yup I'm a Bradford lass. I tend to be a bit lazy though so don't travel far in my search for beads:
Bead Monster, Otley
YumYums, Leeds
Bedazzle Beads, Heckmondwike
Bradford Bead Shop, Kirkgate Market
Bombay Stores, Bradford
Was quite adventurous last week and went looking for the Viking Loom in York but forgot to take the address and had a lovely sunny walk in completely the wrong direction. Oh well! _________________ Andrea |

Oops. I've gone the wrong way completely in York so I know how that feels!
When you're next in York, after the Viking Look you should go to Craft Basics just round the corner on Gillygate- it's only 100 yards down or so. It doesn't sound terribly promising and it is small but I would say it was anything but basic! They are a general craft shop but most of the back of the shop is beads, and they have a very big selection of beading books of the seedbeady sort. They have Czech 11/0 seed beads on hanks and 6, 8 and 11 in sweetie jars; and loose beads in trays arranged by colour. Not a massive selection but a good variety of different beads. They also have lots of ribbon in with the paper crafts stuff. I love how it hasn't gone all commercial with the card making things, like so many craft shops are nowadays.
There is an actual nothing-but-beads shop in York (because the Viking Loom has other crafts too, mainly patchwork and embroidery type things). It's called the Bead Hive and has a Only registered users can see links on this forum! Register or Login on forum! | which isn't very useful. It is my least favourite of all the shops selling loose beads in York, though, and not one I'd probably go back to that often.
I still haven't been to the beads place in Bradford Market- I didn't know it existed until someone on here mentioned it. I've been to Bombay Stores which was really interesting though they didn't have much beads-wise for me. |
