Can anyone recommend a good jewellery making book for beginners. My friend is making a kit up to give as a xmas present and I've recommended suppliers for findings & beads but I don't know which book to recommend. I only have a few and they're a bit more advanced.

The kit she's putting together is for earrings so something with a good earring section would be great.

Liz, I bought a lovely book a few weeks ago (keep meaning to post it in the book section!!). It's called 'It's all about the beads!' by Barbara Case and it's British. There is a section at the beginning about tools and findings and how to section. It's got over 100 projects and it's lovely eye candy. The Designer Gallery is stunning and features lots of beads made by Tuffnell Glass in East Yorks. It was a reasonable price too £12.99 and I got my copy in Waterstones, it's most probably a bit cheaper at Amazon.

I can recommend the Beader's Companion by Judith Durant & Jean Cambell and The Basics of Bead Stringing by Debbie Kanan, both widely available.

Thanks for that Alison and Nemea, I'll pass on the info to my friend.

Alison, I actually have that in my wishlist on Amazon. I was waiting to have a look through a copy before I bought it! Think I might get it if it's as good as it sounds...
