Has anyone used copper earwires before? I'm a little concerned about putting copper into pierced ears, is it safe? I have loads of copper wire and I now have the EZ Earwire maker and I thought it would be nice to make some matching earrings to go with my copper chainmaille items.

TIA

copper earrings from Ravens Song, before she started making them in copper, and I think the earwires are copper.

I've had no problem with them Daisy

Thanks for that ladies. I will have a go later. Caroline, I bought the Earwire maker from Oaktree Crafts when I went to Uttoxeter Bead Fair, it's really good and ever so easy to use.

Hiya

Copper is actually Hypoallergenic, and contains no nickel or lead, in fact the hardening component is tin and about 0.03% magnesium. So they are in fact more safe for you than SP or GP on nickel.

Plus some folks believe that copper helps with arthritis as well as heart problems and gout....something to do with the oxide release that is absorbed into the skin.

So all in all I would say you're pretty safe.

Cheers
Mark

Thanks so much for that, Mark. I already knew about the properties of copper for arthritis etc but didn't realise they were 'safer' than the plated metals. I must admit after wearing my new chainmaille bracelet for two days running, I noticed a metallic taste in my mouth, so perhaps the copper was doing it's work and I was benefiting from it's therapeutic values. What with wearing my copper jewellery and using my essential oils in aromatherapy I should live to at least 100, may get a chance to use all those beads I'm hoarding!!!! ROTFL
