Heart Heart Heart Heart Heart Heart Heart Heart Heart Heart

Red is such a great colour to work with from gothic to girly and everything in between I don't think there is a genre that red won't work for so your challenge this moth is to create something in ravishing red. It must be red not pink and you may use metals, and other accent colours but 90% of the piece must be red.

To enter all you need to do is post up a picture of your creation in this thread, and tell us of a little bit about your creation.

You can enter any bead, beaded or jewellery item. Don't forget that also covers/includes wire work, metal work, polymer clay, lampwork, accessories trinkets, and jewellery etc!

All you need to remember is that you can only enter one piece (or set) per challenge.

The closing date is the last day of July.

I've painstakingly found out that I can't peyote stitch around a wooden bead successfully no matter how long I try. However, I read about creating a net around a bead and then building it up by filling in the gaps. Through trial and error, I think I've finally worked it out!

For this necklace, I've used sterling silver, fire-polished glass, swarovski crystals and various other glass beads and had lots of fun making it!

Fabulous start to the challenge - I like that a lot!
Isn't red the colour of the Beadworkers Guild display board next year, too? This might be an opportunity to create a fabulous piece for their travelling exhibit if you're a BWG member Daisy

I used to hate red. Really hate it. Then I made this piece "Red Resolution" in an attempt to fall in love with red and guess what - it worked! Now, I love red.

Worked in size 11 and 15 seeds, cylinder beads, Swarovskis by the bucket load (bicones, rounds, rivolis), branched fringe (total nightmare as it kept hooking over everything as I stitched it), flat peyote, tubular peyote, St Petersburg Stitch and other bits and bobs thrown in for good measure.

I cannot think of a single piece I have made in red, and since reading this challenge I have been falling asleep each night dreaming of red designs!

By a stroke of luck I got the Beadmerchant's beads of the month this time and they are red. Here's what I made - a herringbone bracelt based on a pattern in "Mastering Beadwork". It was great fun to make.

I digress... cinnabar moths are unpalatable due to the caterpillars eating poisonous plants (ragwort) and storing the toxins in their bodies. Lovely!?

One to bead maybe as they are pretty?

Claire-Louise,
You have created a beautiful and very striking focal with your beaded bead and I agree that trial and error although frustrating does push us to create some wonderful results.

Gill,
Red Resolution, what can I say its breathtaking dont those rivolis really pop. Have you entered this piece anywhere cos if not you should.

As for me if I get the earring challenge uploaded I will try and join the red challenge. I have got a red UFO that really needs reworking so this could be the push I need to get it done.
